Fall River, Massachusetts firm honored for townhome development on Vermont's Burke Mountain
May 31, 2010 - Fall River, MA - Professional Real Estate Services was presented a Best of the Best Award at Efficiency Vermont's 2010 Better Buildings by Design Conference.
The developer earned the Best of the Best in the category "Vermont ENERGY STAR Homes - Single Family Attached" for its Bear Path Townhomes project in East Burke, Vermont. Efficiency Vermont also recognized the project's architect and builder: Black River Design of Montpelier, Vermont and Kingdom Construction of Newport, Vermont. The project received the highest rating, 5-Star Plus, from Efficiency Vermont for features that include:
- "Outsulation" building envelope construction, which wraps the building continuously from foundation to the peak of the roof in rigid foam insulation
- Energy recovery ventilation -- needed for very tightly insulated buildings
- Energy efficient gas boilers
- All ENERGY STAR electrical fixtures and appliances
Efficiency Vermont uses objective criteria to rate the best in energy-efficient commercial and residential design and construction in Vermont and accepts submissions in three award categories:
- Best of the Best in Vermont ENERGY STAR Homes
(Recognizes exceptional achievement in new ENERGY STAR qualified homes.)
- Best of the Best in Home Performance with ENERGY STAR
(Recognizes excellence in energy efficiency renovations in Vermont homes.)
- Best of the Best in Commercial Building Design and Construction
(Recognizes innovative and integrated design approaches for energy efficiency in Vermont's commercial, institutional, industrial, and multifamily buildings.)
Receiving the award for his firm, Jack Dator said, "Energy efficiency construction benefits home owners, local industry and the environment. Over 1,000 building design and construction professionals attended the conference that included interactive learning about building durability, efficiency, and value. This year, Efficiency Vermont experienced a notable increase in entries for many categories of its Best of the Best Awards -- proof that
energy-smart building is on the rise in Vermont. The work displayed by all of the winners showed that Vermonters can save energy and money while also creating comfortable spaces for homeowners, businesses and schools for the long-term.
